The PL James Place Building, a 1952 heritage-listed post office designed by namesake architect Percy Leonard James, underwent a comprehensive set of renovations to enhance the mechanical systems based on Energy Audit/Life Cycle Analysis, to replace the security system, remediate the exterior stone cladding.
Notable upgrades included replacing 252 heat pumps, installing a new high-efficiency boiler and heat recovery system, upgrading rooftop mechanical equipment, and elevators. Seismic upgrades included additional tie-beams and repointing mortar joints and reinforcing parapets. Exterior work focused on stopping water penetration, restoring the street-front glass canopy and Canada’s Coat of Arms. These renovations ensure the building's safety, energy efficiency, and preservation of its heritage status.
