A Group Effort.

Group Study Architecture / Groupe Étude Architecture is a collaborative architectural practice with offices in Victoria, Vancouver, and Toronto. Specializing in educational and institutional projects, the practice combines creative thinking and technical expertise with a practical understanding of construction.

We believe good architecture should be both ambitious and achievable. From initial planning through construction, we work closely with clients to create thoughtful, well-designed buildings that balance architectural quality, project budgets, and long-term value.

Why Group Study? / What’s Groupe Étude?

Groupe Étude Architecture?

Whether you know us as Group Study Architecture, Groupe Étude Architecture, or simply GSA or GEA, our bilingual identity reflects the Québec roots of our founding principals, Annie M. Charbonneau and J. Robert Thibodeau.

At its heart, Group Study / Groupe Étude (GSA-GEA) celebrates the value of working as a close-knit group. No project is shaped by a single point of view; it emerges through the contributions of clients, collaborators, consultants, and the communities who will ultimately inhabit it. The collective knowledge and experience brought to each project builds on the last, contributing to an ongoing study of how architecture can better support the people and communities it serves.

How We Work

Every project comes with its own set of conditions, from site and program requirements to budget and construction. We use these as a starting point for design, looking for opportunities to make the most of what each project presents.

With particular experience in modular construction, GSA-GEA explores efficient and adaptable building methods, considering how design, fabrication, and assembly can work together to achieve lasting architectural quality.

Three Cities
One Practice

Led by founding principals Annie M. Charbonneau and J. Robert Thibodeau, GSA-GEA brings together the expertise of Annie M. Charbonneau Architect Inc. and Thibodeau Architecture + Design.

Originally from Québec, Annie and Robert have each established their architectural practices in British Columbia. Their work spans institutional architecture, prefabricated construction, sustainable design, and heritage restoration and renewal.

As principal of the Toronto office, Harsh Mehra brings his own perspective and experience to GSA-GEA, extending the practice's work across three cities.
